What is proverb?

A proverb is a short statement usually known by many people. It states something that is common experience or gives advice.

Half proverb

There are several proverbs, which we often use only half of. The endings are so familiar that it isn't necessary to say them. Below are some which can prove to be extremely useful in your daily life.

People, especially native speakers, usually enjoy making use of proverbs because they are short, generally accepted and easily sum up things or situations.

Do keep in mind that for each proverb there is another which says exactly the opposite.

For example:

Too many cooks spoil the broth. BUT Many hands make light works.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. BUT Out of sight, out of mind.

Birds of a feather flock together. BUT Opposites attract.

Now, let us check if you have really learnt and understood the proverbs above.
